There are a number of “common faults” with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Another of the more common faults with the three litre V6 Diesel engine is an oil leak that develops from the sup gasket. The sump we are referencing to is not the lower sump, which is quite easy to remove. The Sump gasket that leaks is the upper sump and it’s quite a job to access.
You do not need to remove the front cross member as many have done in the past. The most straight forward way to do this job is to remove the front prop shaft, front differential and the steering rack out of the vehicle. With these items out of the way you can now remove the sump and replace the gasket.
This job takes a total of about six hours once you have done it several times. As a one off or a first time repair this will take you at least double this. This is not a repair that a DIY person should be doing. This should be done by qualified technicians as its a major repair.
