One of the most common failures on the Subaru Forester in the failure of one or both of the front power windows.
What normally happens with these is the electric motor on the window regulator fails. This is a common fault with many vehicles as the electric motors work hard every time the window goes up and down. What is unique to Subarus and in particular the foresters is the fact that this motor and its unique circuit allows the failing or failed motor to over work the window control switch.
This means that nine times out of ten. if the window electrics has failed the vehicle will require both parts. A new motor and a new window switch. Many wreaking yards sell these as a pair as the fault is commonly known.
You can expect to pay between $200 and $300 for both parts second hand.
Once you have your parts its a case of removing the door panel (also called a door card) Remove the window glass, the regulator and swapping the parts over.
Swap the switch over and your done.
Still not working?? This overloaded circuit can also cause the power window fuse to blow. Replace the fuse too but only after you have replaced the switch and the regulator.
